Firstly, I have stayed on many sites in Europe over the past 15 years so I am well aware of what to expect compared to UK sites. My partner found this site on various review sites and it seemed to get good reviews. We were traveling with our caravan so were looking for a decent base to explore the Black Forest. The site is a mix of tents, tourers (some now obviously static) and holiday cabins and permanent tents from a number of holiday package companies.
Arrival, only one small sign from the road out of the village so easily missed, no other signs exist until you turn into the road that site is on. Greeted by a gentleman who asked if we had a reservation which we did. He checked our paperwork and showed us to a pitch beside the river. The pitch was a mix of badly worn out grass and gravel which had obviously been put down to cover \"bald\" areas. Once I had the caravan in place the gentleman then took my EHU cable and connected it to the power outlet, and then locked the cabinet!
The site is quite large with onsite shop selling basics and restaurant/bar. There is a small children\'s park beside the outside eating area which I saw a number of local cats use as their own toilet.
The showers are old, in major need of refurbishment, and some are even broken. The toilets are a bit better but still need refurbished. There are only two sinks to allow you to wash dishes, and I saw people washing clothes in these sinks rather than use the laundry room. My partner and daughter used the showers at the public swimming pool as the onsite ones were so bad.
The bar only sells a couple of different beers and the whole site is littered with sponsors logos etc. for one brand of beer. The food in the restaurant is average at best, more like a poor UK service station than anything else. It is also expensive, not value for money in anyway.

The site is crammed with holiday cabins, fixed tents etc. which at hundreds of pounds a week is obviously one of the main forms of incomes for the site. If I had rented one of those and turned up here I would be furious. Tourers in tents are cramped together on one part of the site, with very little space between then to allow for privacy. I even witnessed the owners cutting branches off trees just so they could squeeze in another motorhome.

The site is anything but quiet, teenagers galore run riot around the area close to the bar, some on bikes etc. and just sitting on the table tennis tables etc. There is limited entertainment for younger children.

The only good think about this site isn\'t even directly related to the site. There is a great outdoor public swimming pool next to the site. The site will give you \"Guest Cards\" to allow free access to the pool.

In all honesty, this is by far the worst camp site in Europe I have ever stayed at.

Been using this campsite now for about 30 years and it gets better every year. The staff are very welcoming and friendly, the food is first class with a really good restaurant. Although we are now pensioners, this site is ideal for children of all ages as we have proved over the years, our children (now adults) still remember the wonderful times we spent here on our way down to Switzerland. We recommend this site to people of all ages. Can\'t wait till next year!

Reception closed from 1300 to 1500 but staff member may be available to take you to pitch. Very pleasant camping. Shaded pitches on right of access road, more open pitches on left. Foot and bicycle access to village and railway station via path alongside small river. Pitches near the river are prone to insects. Well signposted bicycle network in main valley and up into the smaller valley past the campsite. Plenty of walking from site or nearby. Guestcard paid for by tourist tax gives FREE public transport on trains, trams and buses throughout Black Forest region (see http://www.blackforest-tourism.com/info/KONUS). Nearby Haslach and Gengenberg are very pretty old towns with good shopping. Plenty to do in area for a week or more.

This is a wonderful site in a fantastic location, set beneath mountains. The village is an easy walk and the adjacent pool is great and free to campers, as are the local trains over a very large area. Safe cycle tracks run for miles along the river valley passing through wonderful villages and towns. There is a bar and restaurant on site which serves great food. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the site is kept spotlessly clean at all times. We have stayed here for twice and whilst the sanitation block is a little old it is large very clean and has wonderful power showers.
